Groundbreaking HaaS approach allows visual effects companies to quickly and affordably scale infrastructure.
LOS ANGELES—August 5, 2015— GPL Technologies, a premier provider of technology solutions and managed services to the media and entertainment industry, will showcase agile pipeline solutions for visual effects companies offered by its VFXnow division at SIGGRAPH 2015 in Los Angeles, Booth 206.
VFXnow has developed a unique Hardware as a Service (HaaS) model where visual effects companies lease rather than buy hardware, allowing them to quickly and economically ramp up production pipelines to meet project needs. Workstations, rendering systems and storage capacity can be added without long-term investment costs, and with the support of an experienced, production-minded engineering team.
“We provide the technology a company needs when faced with fluctuating and demanding workflows,” says GPL Technologies CEO Brian Terrell. “We deploy it. We support it. If there is a problem, we take care of it.”
This is the first year that GPL Technologies is exhibiting its solutions at SIGGRAPH. Visitors to its booth will also have an opportunity to win a GoPro camera.
Los Angeles visual effects studio Piximondo employed VFXnow to add rendering capacity and other IT systems while producing visual effects for the films Star Trek and Oblivion. “VFXnow provides the technology we need for the time that we need it,” explains Felix Fissel, Pixomondo’s Head of IT. “It gives us flexibility, which is what we need most.”
GPL Technologies CTO Jason Blum notes that VFXnow relieves the challenges of managing complex IT systems. “We remove technological barriers from the creative flow,” Blum says. “Artists can meet their creative goals without being sidelined by server or networking issues.”
In addition to SIGGRAPH GPL will host a party and technology demonstration on August 19th, from 6:30-9:30pm, at Jillian’s in Universal City. Presentations from Arista and EMC will be held in a private screening room. The event will also include bowling, arcade games and a premium bar.
